Real Accademia Sancti Ambrosii Martyris organises visit to Malta and the city of Mdina

The President Angelo Musa and Vice President Leonardo Lucarella of RASAM together with Academic Rossella Grisoli formed the delegation that accepted the invitation of the Hon Mayor of Mdina Citta Notabile, Conte Peter Sant Manduca, to visit the old capital city of Malta. The vist was held between Wednesday 20th and Monday 25th September 2017 and was organised and coordinated by the Maltese members of RASAM: Marco Spiteri Binett, Gabriel Zammit and Martin Bonnici. The programme of the visit included many major landmarks in the capital city Valletta, the three cities, fort St Angelo, Marsaxlokk and the Sliema and St Julian’s area. A private tour of St Paul’s Grotto and the Wignacourt museum in Rabat was also organised. The climax of the visit was without doubt, the Mdina event. The RASAM Delegation was officially received at the entrance of the city by The Hon Mayor, Conte Peter Sant Manduca who was wearing his Mayoral regalia. Following an official introduction the Mayor escorted the Delagation around notable sites in the silent city namely Vilhena Palace currently serving as the museum of natural history, through the main street of the city, Villegaignon Street, indicating the Benedictine Monastery of St Peter, various imposing buildings consisting of palatial residences of the nobility and offices of the commune leading up to the main square of the city dominated by the majestic cathedral of Saint Peter and Sant Paul. Following an in depth tour of the imposing temple the group went on to visit the chapel of St Roque, the church and monastery of our Lady of Mount Carmel and Palazzo Falson known as the Norman House. The walk through the city streets and alleys, impeccably maintained by the Local Council, echoed the history of a hilltop medieval village strewn with extensive influence from the Roman period through to the British colonial era. On the bastions and the belvedere, the breathtaking view of the island of Malta was enjoyed and marvelled upon by those present. The Delegation was then hosted by Contessa Louisette Sant Manduca in her ancestral home dominating the Mdina bastions. After a warm welcome and signing of the visitors book, the President of RASAM addressed the gathering and after thanking the Hon Mayor and Contessa Sant Manduca for their hospitality, shared the high aims and ideals of the RASAM as well as the achievements to date. Together with Vice President Leonardo Lucarella, the President Angelo Musa awarded the distinction of Academic of Honour to the Hon Mayor, Contessa Louisette Sant Manduca and last but not least to the Honourable Ivan Bartolo, member of the Maltese Paliament for his self less and altruistic deeds to save human life. The event at Casa Sant Manduca came to a close with a prosecco and a toast to a truly memorable gathering that has forged new friendships and heart warming experiences. The Mdina visit was sealed with a hearty lunch at the Bacchus Restearant situated right on the foremost bastion of the city. During the visit to Malta, the high officials of RASAM had several opportunities to discuss much material of interest that falls under the patronage of the Academy, with the three Maltese members who organised this unforgettable event. High on the agenda were immediate future events to be organised on the island which boasts major attractions connected with Royalty, nobility, chivalry and heraldry. This visit has led to the establishment of a live presence of RASAM on the island of Malta, Europe’s most southern border. The Maltese members of Rasam were instrumental in the organisation and support of the recent visit of HIH Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna to the island of Malta earlier in June this year. La Real Accademia Sancti Ambrosii Martyris organizza una visita a Malta e alla città di Mdina

Il presidente Angelo Musa ed il vicepresidente Leonardo Lucarella della Real Accademia Sancti Ambrosii Martyris  unitamente all’Accademica Rossella Grisolia hanno formato la delegazione che ha accettato l’invito del sindaco della città Notabile di Mdina (Malta), Conte Peter Sant Manduca, a visitare la vecchia capitale di Malta. La visita è stata effettuata tra mercoledì 20 e lunedì 25 settembre scorso, organizzata e coordinata dai membri maltesi della Real Academia: Marco Spiteri Binett, Gabriel Zammit e Martin Bonnici. Il programma della visita comprendeva molti punti di riferimento importanti nella capitale Valletta, le tre città, la fortezza St. Angelo, Marsaxlokk e la zona di Sliema e St Julian. È stato organizzato anche un tour privato nella Grotta di San Paolo e del museo Wignacourt di Rabat. Il clima della visita era senza dubbio l’evento di Mdina. La delegazione RASAM è stata ufficialmente ricevuta all’ingresso della città dal sindaco Hon. Conte Peter Sant Manduca con la caratteristica insegna da collo da Mayor della Città. Dopo un’introduzione ufficiale, il sindaco ha accompagnato la Delagazione nei pressi di luoghi notevoli nella silenziosa città, a palazzo Vilhena che attualmente ospita il museo della storia naturale, attraverso la via principale della città, Villegaignon Street, non trascurando di far notare il monastero benedettino di San Pietro, vari edifici imponenti composti da palazzi residenziali della nobiltà e degli uffici del comune che conducono alla piazza principale della città dominata dalla maestosa cattedrale di San Pietro e San Paolo. Dopo una visita approfondita del tempio imponente, il gruppo ha visitato la cappella di San Rocco, la chiesa e il monastero di Nostra Signora del Monte Carmelo e Palazzo Falson noto come la Casa Normanna. La passeggiata per le strade e le vie della città, impeccabilmente mantenuta dal Consiglio Locale, riecheggiava la storia di un borgo medievale sovrastante una collina ricca di influenze dal periodo romano all’epoca coloniale britannica. Dai bastioni e dal belvedere, si è goduta unitamente ai turisti presenti la vista mozzafiato dell’intera isola di Malta. La delegazione è stata poi ospitata dalla Contessa Louisette Sant Manduca nella sua casa ancestrale che domina i bastioni di Mdina. Dopo un caloroso benvenuto e la firma del libro dei visitatori, il Presidente della RASAM ha affrontato la riunione e dopo aver ringraziato l’Hon Mayor e la Contessa Sant Manduca per la loro ospitalità, ha condiviso gli alti obiettivi e gli ideali del RASAM e dei risultati finora conseguiti. Insieme al vicepresidente Leonardo Lucarella, il presidente Angelo Musa ha assegnato la distinzione di accademico d’onore al sindaco d’onore alla Contessa Louisette Sant Manduca e, in ultimo ma non meno importante, all’onorevole Ivan Bartolo, membro del palazzo maltese per le sue azioni altruistiche e meno autentiche per salvare la vita umana. L’evento a Casa Sant Manduca si è chiusa con un prosecco e un brindisi ad un incontro veramente memorabile che ha creato nuove amicizie ed esperienze. La visita di Mdina è stata sigillata con un ricco pranzo presso il Bacard Restearant situato proprio sul bastione più importante della città. Durante la visita a Malta, i verticidella RASAM hanno avuto diverse occasioni per discutere di molti materie di interesse che rientrano nel patrocinio dell’Accademia, con i tre membri maltesi che hanno organizzato questo evento indimenticabile. Al centro dell’ordine del giorno sono stati organizzati eventi futuri immediati sull’isola che vanta importanti attrazioni legate a Royalty, nobiltà, cavalleria e araldica. Questa visita ha portato alla creazione di una presenza viva della Real Accademia Sancti Ambrosii Martyris sull’isola di Malta, sul confine più a sud d’Europa. I membri maltesi della  Real Accademia Samcti Ambrosii Martyris sono stati di fondamentale sostegno nell’organizzazione della recente visita della Gran Duchessa di Russia SAIR Maria Vladimirovna sull’isola di Malta all’inizio del mese di giugno di quest’anno. L’evento è stato immortalato da Martin Bonnici noto e rinomato professionista Maltese.
